Iran put up a brilliant fight against the South American team but a Lionel Messi goal in injury time saved the day for Argentina.

Argentina vs Iran Highlights 2014 World Cup

Argentina were made to work hard once again as this time Iran were the team that put up a resilient fight against them. For almost 90 minutes, the Argentinians failed to find the net but Lionel Messi once again saved the day for them with a brilliant effort.

Few would have expected Argentina, viewed as one of the favorites to win the tournament, to be given too much of a test by a team that has never gone beyond the first round of a World Cup in three previous appearances.

But Iran, who were criticized for their defensive play against Nigeria, put up one more such display in Belo Horizonte  to come within a few minutes of a highly creditable draw.

However, Lionel Messi stepped up when his team needed him the most, curling a ball beautifully into the bottom right corner to break all Iranian hearts.

Argentina have now qualified for the knockout stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, having won both their games and are set to play the runner up team of Group E.
