Belgium 2-1 Algeria 2014 Highlights: Match Review
A first half goal from Ferghouli gave Algeria the lead before Marouane Fellaini came off the bench to score the equalizer. Mertens scored the second goal 10 minutes later to give the Belgians very important 3 points.
Belgium, tagged by many as the dark horses of the 2014 World Cup were made to work hard by the stern Algerian defense for a hard fought 2-1 victory.
Algeria started the game brilliantly, neutralizing the Belgian attack with a very strong defense and took their chances going forward too. They were rewarded in the 24th minute after Feghouli was brought down by Vertonghen in the penalty area. He made no mistake to score in what was the first World Cup goal for Algeria in 28 years. The score remained the same after 45 minutes.
Belgium started the second half well and they finally scored the equalizer in the 70th minute after Manchester United’s Fellaini came off the bench to score a brilliant headed goal that sent the Belgian fans into a frenzy.
Belgium took the lead 10 minutes later after Mertens scored off a Belgian counter attack, meeting a pass from Eden Hazard and depositing the ball in the Algerian net and this proved to be the winning goal.
Belgium now are at the top of Group H with the second match between Russia and Korea to be played later today.
