Being placed in a Group of Death is the worst nightmare that every manager wants to avoid on the draw day. Every four years, some teams bear the brunt of bad luck that decides how far the teams are able to reach at the FIFA World Cup. The same thing happened at the draw of the FIFA World Cup 2014 when the 32 Qualified Teams were divided into eight groups of four teams each and this time, Group G with Germany, Portugal, Ghana and United States is shaping up to be the FIFA World Cup 2014 Group of Death.
FIFA World Cup 2014 Group of Death: Group G
Germany have one of the most balanced sides in the World Cup and are considered to be one of the title contenders of the 2014 World Cup. With a squad boasting of players like Thomas Muller, Mesut Ozil, Miroslav Klose, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Phillip Lahm, Manuel Neur, Germany will be expected to lift the trophy that has eluded for quite a long time now. Hence, progressing through the group should not be a hard nut to crack for Joachim Low’s team.
Portugal might not be the same feared team that they were in the early 2000s but they still have one of the deadliest attacking weapons, Cristiano Ronaldo. He demonstrated the ability of his individual prowess when he single handedly took Portugal to the 2014 World Cup, scoring all 4 goals in a 4-2 win over Switzerland in their Qualifying match. Ronaldo will need a lot of help from his fellow teammates if Portugal are to do well at the World Cup. However, considering their opponents, Portugal will be the second favored team to advance into the next round.
3. United States
If you are a United States supporter, you are looking at a group that potentially is the hardest group that USA has ever had to face. The United States has been knocked out of the World Cup by Ghana in each of the last two tournaments and they will get their chance for revenge in the first match of this year’s World Cup. USA will have to be at their very best in all 3 games if they want to have a chance of reaching the knockout stage in the World Cup.
Ghana will be the dark horses at the World Cup. Ghana is the lowest-ranked team in the group, but its recent World Cup success speaks for itself. The Black Stars have advanced to the knockout phase in each of the last two tournaments, having knocked out USA on both occasions, including the quarterfinals four years ago. Hence writing them off will be a mistake none of the teams will want to make.
This is what we think about the FIFA World Cup 2014 Group of Death. All analysis on one side, this group promises to be one of the most exciting groups of recent times with a lot of exciting matches to look forward too. Lets hope the FIFA World Cup 2014 Group of Death lives upto its expectations and gives us some great matches to remember.
