Paul Pogba’s late second half goal was enough to ensure that the 1998 Champions go through to the Quarterfinals and they face the prospect of facing Argentina in the last 8.

In a World Cup that has already seen so many upsets, it was expected that Nigeria will surprise everyone in this Round of 16 match. However, it wasn’t to be as France proved to be the better team on the day.

The match began with a lot of intensity as both teams created a few chances in the first 10 minutes. However, the pace of the game seemed to drop a bit as the first half progressed.

Players from both teams made some brilliant runs but the quality of the final ball was lacking and hence no goals could be scored in the first half.

The second half was a bit similar to the first half, where the quality of the final ball was quite poor, hence both teams found it difficult to find the net. However Nigerian goalkeeper Enyeama, having made some brilliant saves in the match, committed his first mistake of the game and Paul Pogba latched onto the poor clearance to find the back of the net with a cool header in the 80th minute.
