Arjen Robben

van Persie’s absense meant Arjen Robben was the commander-in-chief of the attack and he demonstrated his quality by producing some brilliant individual runs in the first half. He was, however unsuccessful in all his endeavours as the Chile defense remained solid throughout the first half, denying Loius van Gaal’s men a goal.

Netherlands however took the lead in the 77th minute through a bullet header by Leroy Fer as he met a cross by Daryl Janmaat and scored his first international goal for Netherlands.
