Ricky Martin has invited the fans to write the Brazil World Cup anthem

How can we forget “La Copa de la vida”(The Cup of Life)? It was the anthem that Ricky Martin sang in the 1998 World Cup held in France that propelled the Puerto Rican singer into the global spotlight. And it was fantastic. Well now he will be singing the World Cup anthem once more for the 2014 World Cup. And what more, he has invited the fans to compose the song for him.

The singer confirmed the news and extended an open invitation with a video where he asks the public to participate in a global music contest called “Super Song”, it is organized by Sony, with the final purpose being the composition of the song Ricky Martin will record and perform at the Brazil world cup 2014.

For this contest, the audience will have the chance to write the lyrics and send them in to be selected. The main theme to follow when it comes to writing this song will be “Soccer and Music unite the world”. The “SuperSong” competition will open for submissions in December.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you are. You have a chance to write a song for the next World Cup, and I will record it,” Martin said in a video promoting the contest on the international version of World Cup sponsor Sony’s “One Stadium” website.

The song will not be the official 2014 FIFA World Cup anthem, but it is to be included as a track on a FIFA World Cup album, which will be released during next summer’s tournament in Brazil.

The last World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka“was recorded by fellow Latin star and Colombian singer Shakira for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and it turned out to be a huge hit among football fans.  It sold 1.7 million downloads in the U.S.
