Spain vs Netherlands 1-5 Highlights 2014 World Cup

Spain opened the scoring in the first half through a penalty goal by Xabi Alonso after another controversial decision was made as Diego Costa went down in the box. Alonso scored an easy penalty to give Spain the lead in the 27th minute. However, a brilliant acrobatic effort from Robin van Persie put Netherlands on level terms with Spain. The quality of the goal was such that Iker Casillas couldn’t even react to the header from van Persie.

The second half began in favor of the Netherlands, as Casillas was beaten for the second time, this time by Arjen Robben in the 53rd minute. Netherlands then began to run riot as they scored their third goal through Stefan de Vrij  as a free kick saw another poor piece of defending from the Spanish team

Robben and van Persie scored two more goals in the second half to seal a demolishing victory for the 2010 finalists against the defending champions. Spain’s performance is sure to raise many doubts whether the Tiki taka Styke of football is past its prime and can it survive against the modern day counter attacking football.
